John P. McEneny has run the celebrated drama program since 1997. He teaches drama to sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. He teaches acting, improvisation, voice, clowning, stage combat, scene study, playwrighting, with a special concentration on Process Drama. Each year he directs 5 - 6 productions. John also runs Piper Theatre Productions, a summer theatre company that performs free Shakespearean productions for the community of Park Slope at the historic Old Stone House. www.pipertheatre.org
He has directed youth productions of Grease, Wiz, Grapes of Wrath, Women of Trachis, To Kill a Mockingbird, Crucible, Largest Elizabeth in the World, Frankenstein, Shakespeare's Much Ado, Hamlet, R&J, Tempest, MacBeth, Winter's Tale, and Midsummer. He has has written many original youth plays for 51 including Mayla the Monkey Girl (published by Playwrights Inc), Cold April (Winner of Strawberry Festival 2008 - now being filmed by Smith Rivera Films), Grippe of October (published by Wasteland press), Wall of Badalalo, Shema, the Puppet Children, King of Cats, and the Midnight Circus.
